Sculpture

For my thesis project at the SMFA, I created an installation piece called Meditations on the Abyss. This work was a reaction to the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Utilizing footage from the cameras monitoring the oil gushing out of the well head and a five foot diameter pool of ferrofluid that was activated by  four electromagnets controlled by a microprocessor, I created a meditative space designed to enable the viewer to contemplate this recent disaster and mankind’s effect of the environment.
